Job Description
Summary/Objective: Four levels of Manual Machinists; Level I, Level II, Level III, and Lead. Based on the level of experience in print reading and ability to comprehend and use machines without supervision determines the level assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Manual Machinist Level I
Work Schedule: 8 days on / 6 days off
Hours: 6:00 am to 6:00 pm

Manual Machinist Level I
- Ability to read fabrication drawings supplied by engineering to determine what machining is required of each part
- Capable of running a Mill and a Drill without supervision
- Capable of using a horizontal and vertical saw without supervision
- Knowledge of how and when to change tools and inserts
- Understand the basic knowledge of manual machining speed and feed rates
- Ability to meet on-time scheduling of products in a fast-paced environment
- Provide assistance or perform helper duties when production demands are low
- Adheres to established procedures to ensure compliance with quality standards
- Responsible for compliance with safety and housekeeping requirements
- Facilitates and promotes company policy and the company Quality Improvement program within all department work groups
- May be exposed to excessive noise, welding gases and fumes, and varying weather conditions
- Requested to work overtime and weekends as requested along with perform other duties as assigned
- Perform standard machinist duties such as: cleaning machine and area after use, changing tooling setups, deburring parts, monitoring machine oil levels and stamping heat numbers.
- Ability to setup and run a horizontal and vertical lathe without supervision
- Capable of determining better tooling to use for the job
- Ability to hit tolerances supplied by engineering
- Ability to setup and run a horizontal boring mill for multiple different tasks (grooving, boring, facing) without supervision
- Perform routine tooling checks, disposing of damaged tools and sharpening of dull tools o Superior knowledge of machining and machine maintenance/troubleshooting
- Execute spot checks on other machinists to ensure parts are fabricated to specifications
- Train and mentor Manual Machinists I thru III to be able to perform work on machines without supervision
- Assign and delegate work with Shift Supervisor to machinists based off job priorities and workload
- Manage stock program of machined parts and assign stock work to machinists during downtime
- Evaluate inventory of tools and supplies and work with Shift Supervisor and Manufacturing Manager to order as needed
- Familiar with quality standards requiring proper documentation on a traveler
- Ability to understand and apply workplace safety procedures
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment required
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb
