Job Description

Job Objectives: Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Must be familiar with FANUC controls
  • Basic set-up for parts and operating CNC Bridge Mill
  • Need knowledge of tooling and set-up of part, set up of X, Y & Z axis
  • Must be able to comprehend instructions from supervisors and/or co-workers.
  • Apply knowledge of shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawing, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerations of finished work piece, sequence of operations and step-up requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures cutting tools attachments accessories and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jug borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance or finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Minor editing of program
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • May operate welding equipment to cut
  • May develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part to be fabricated.
  • May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machine or assembly problems.
  • May specialize in setting up and operation NC machines and machine centers and be designated Numerical Control Machine Machinist.
  • Communicate verbally/effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers for resolution of any questions regarding safety, job conduct, and product quality control.
  • Operate vehicles, industrial cleaning equipment or power tools when authorized and qualified to do so in accordance with established company rules and work orders.
  • Clean up work area and equipment after work is completed.
  • Comply with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
  • Must be able to work, when necessary, the two-night shifts plus reasonable overtime on the graveyard shift and/or weekends.
  • Must make satisfactory performance in the Essential Functions Simulation process for Boiler Maker’s Helper.

Equipment/ Clothing Used to Perform Job:
Protective equipment
Side shielded safety glasses and steel toe boots at all times; gloves, hearing protection, goggles, chemical cleaning suit, acid suit, respiratory protection: including N95, full or partial face mask respirator, and supplied air hood as required. Assorted long and short handled tools. Various power tools including roll motor, tuber, knocking gun, grinder, and impact gun, various clamps, slings, and machine carts. Powered industrial trucks and mechanical lift equipment including overhead cranes and dollies.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs., kneeling, bending, twisting, overhead reaching, climbing, gripping with the hands, pushing, and pulling, walk and stand for long periods of time, repetitive motion.

Days: Monday through Sunday
Hours: Shop Hours are as follows: (the shop operates 24/7 – 365 days/year)
4:00am – 7:00am Graves Days
7:00am-3:30pm Days
3:30pm12:00am Nights
12:00am-4:00am Graves Nights
**Hours are subject to swing schedule and are not a set schedule (days or nights) **
This applies for all shop personnel.
Candidates MUST be available for any of the shift hours
