Job Duties and Responsibilities



Manage and control shipping and receiving activities of the company in a safe and cost effective manner and ensure maximum utilization of resources and equipment.


Overall Responsibility

Work involves the direct supervision of 13 to 15 employees. Areas of management include sequence of customer order/orders are loaded per customer requirements, inbound material is processed per procedure, effective crane utilization, overtime, equipment operator maintenance checks, and enforce all safety rules/regulations.

Supervisor’ s responsibility involves hands on leadership and providing direction to crane operators and other team members in the day to day operation of the warehouse, maintaining proper identification of product materials and appropriate storage of material to minimize damage and facilitate inventory control. Individual must have management experience in steel distribution and strong knowledge of company product lines.


Key Responsibilities

Instilling a quality done right approach to warehouse operations.

Maintain and enforce established shipping/receiving procedures.

Ensure company policies and procedures for the marking and storage of materials as to size, heat, and standardized color codes are accomplished effectively.

Ensure a safe and clean working environment is maintained and that daily safety inspections of equipment are documented.

Interface with Sales Department when customer requirements cannot be met so that a solution can be agreed upon.

Actively seek process improvement solutions to expand shipping and reciving operations.

Ensure that all trucks are loaded according to customer requirements and properly so that loads can be secured per DOT regulations.

Supervise and provide production operators (burning and sawing) with necessary production vouchers and ensure they follow schedule.

Coordinate with Material Handlers to provide Operators with material to be processed so that there is minimal down time in the operation.

Actively participate in company safety program.




High School diploma or equivalent.

Basic English comprehension to include spoken, reading and writing.

Basic mathematic skills include counting, adding and subtracting.

Five years of successful leadership experience at the manager/supervisor level in a steel warehouse environment.

Hand on experience utilizing overhead cranes, forklift and other material handling equipment.

Stable work history.

Ability to work shifts with overtime as required.

Ability to pass a pre-hiring physical and drug screen.



Working Conditions

The Night Shift Supervisor work is physically strenuous. Supervisors are required to lead by example in a warehouse environment. Supervisors are infrequently required to lift up to 40 pounds of tools, and or materials, bend, stoop, or operate overhead cranes and forklift. Supervisors are required to walk long distances throughout the day/night and are required to climb on and off flatbed trailers when needed. Work environment includes exposure to all kinds of weather. Employees must wear proper PPE which includes safety glasses, work gloves, work boots, and hard hats. To reduce the risk of accidents, workers are required to follow strict safety regulations. Work requires the ability to work non-standard hours and the ability to work after hours call-out’ s and weekend shifts.
